Japanese Inspired Farm Home
PROJECT SUMMARY
The clients wanted an extremely efficient home, with a large solar array, designed around a number of important Asian pieces of art in their collection. They requested that I head up the design team for this Japanese Inspired Farm House to be built beginning in 2010 on a large tract near the Dog River in Douglasville.
Due to structure size vs. bedroom quantity, the home wont be LEED Certified but will otherwise be built to LEED-H standards.
Among the design prerequisites is a cedar shake roof, but since the home is built in a wooded tornado prone area we decided to use an alternative product and settled on Hanson Cement tiles for their High SRI, superior fire resistance, 125-mph wind rating, and excellent durability rating.
The home was oriented on the lot to maximize the 4kw solar array, with enough space to add another 4kw. For solar shading a 5- to 16-foot covered porch surrounded the home. Twelve-foot ceilings, and cypress decking are to be included along with the following additional features
