Since 1998, Eco Custom Homes has been on the forefront of sustainable building through our sister company, Icon Development Corp. As such, we’ve differentiated ourselves from inception. Here is how.
- We are a 100% Earthcraft ™ home builder for the past 4 years and with the new guidelines in 2007 we aim for 100% Gold Certification for all of our homes. EarthCraft House is a green building program that serves as a blueprint for healthy, comfortable homes that reduce utility bills and protect the environment. EarthCraft House is a partnership between the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association, Southface, government and industry partners.
Eco Custom Homes over-achieves the Earthcraft Standards of 150 points by delivering 220 – 250 points out of a possible 300. We strive for top tier Earthcraft. This puts us ahead of other local builders. Eco Custom Homes is also the Southface regional leader for building Southface Top-tier Certified Homes. - Use of Radiant Barrier Roof Decking utilizing the product Tech Shield. Tech Shield is a transparent, flexible, non-conductive protection coating that molecularly bonds to all surfaces. It arrests and prevents corrosive attack from acids, salt water, caustic, chlorine, alcohol, water and acid rain. Tech Shield waterproofs, rustproofs, resists ozone and ultraviolet rays, protects electrical wiring and terminal connections, prevents mildew, and provides adhesion for slippery surfaces.
- On-Demand Hot Water Systems are installed for the entire home. We encourage zero energy usage when hot water is not required or utilized in the home. For several years, we worked with manufacturers to design systems that solve a number of issues that large homes have with these systems. Eco Custom Homes infuses this practice in their homes on the client’s behalf.
You may not use hot water 24 hours a day, but, you're paying to heat water all day long. With a standard water heater, you heat and reheat the same water…even when you're sleeping. Tankless heating technology, such as Rinnai’s Forever Hot Water, is a more efficient way to heat water while saving money and recapturing valuable storage space. Using the latest in gas technology, it heats water on-demand and delivers an endless supply of hot water for as long as you need it, offering personalized control for your convenience, comfort and safety. - Alternatives to MDF Materials - With each home, Eco Custom Homes consistently strives to remove all MDF materials from our homes. Medium Density Fiberboard, MDF, is an engineered wood product formed by breaking down softwood into wood fibers, combining it with wax and resin, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure. It is a building material similar in application to plywood but made up of separate fibers, not wood veneers. It is denser than normal particleboard. MDF is also known as Customwood or Craftwood.
We are alarmed by the amount of MDF products used today by builders in their “Custom Estate Homes”. It is an unnecessary practice and several other alternatives are available. Unfortunately, most homebuyers are unaware that these harmful materials exist in the homes in which they invest and live. MDF is controversial in regards to its cancer risk by its use of urea formaldehyde resins. Urea formaldehyde is also found in house insulation. - Formaldehyde-free House Insulation Eco Custom Homes tested several options on behalf of their clients, but JM’s Spider™ Custom Insulation System meets new codes standards across the country. Spider is a Formaldehyde-free™ fiber glass insulation that sprays in almost dry, completely filling gaps and voids around electrical fixtures, pipes and other obstructions to give you superior insulation coverage.
- HVAC super high, efficient installations with less than 4% leakage. This promotes healthy air inside the home and based on pressure, reduces the risk of “pulling in” air from the outside when doors to the outside open and shut.
- We design the Central Vacuum system to route to the garage – outside the living space. Other builders that due include Central Vacuum systems typically route the waste to the basement – inside the living space.
- We provide our clients with Guild Quality Customer Satisfaction surveys. This supports our efforts to maintain consistent, quality work. Our clients are surveyed on move-in and then again six and 12 months from taking residence. www.guildquality.com
